Eastside-Special

This tour tells the moving story of the Berlin Wall and life in the GDR/East Berlin—from firsthand experience, because I grew up in East Berlin and know every corner, every whisper of the city. We visit the central places of history, including the three remaining wall remnants and Checkpoint Charlie, to make the inhumane death strip tangible. I weave my own experiences in the GDR and my adventurous escape story into the narrative. Accompanied by personal photos and videos from that time, you will feel up close what it was like to live between concrete and longing. We travel to significant sites in the former East Berlin to bring closer the everyday life, the hopes, and the courage of the people there—and we also look at the changes after the fall of the Wall up to today. We also take time for secret places that are not on the usual tourist lists to experience history in its full depth.
